Black in Tech 101: Major Keys for Success
Being Black in tech oftentimes means you are “one of one” or “one of few,” which comes with its own set of expectations and inspires lots of questions about how to fit in. However, just because we may be small in quantity doesn’t mean we can’t navigate the industry with the same confidence and toolkit that our counterparts have when they start their careers within the industry. This talk will cover topics that aren’t spoken about enough within the black community, such as how to discuss salary, managing relationships with superiors who are of a different race, and being the “token” for all controversial topics in the workplace. We’ll also deep dive into the dynamics of leaning into D&I initiatives while not being seen as the only champion, and bringing your best self to work all while building your personal brand.
