Music Industry Spotlight: Africa
In recent years, the African music industry has experienced exponential growth with music revenue in Nigeria alone expected to exceed $50m by 2023. This has gained the attention of the world as labels and artists look to penetrate the last billion-population continent in the world. With the African music industry still in its relative infancy, there is huge potential to be unearthed in this continent of rich music history and heritage.
In this presentation, you will hear and learn from experts about what you need to know in order to succeed as a creative or a label in a continent of 54 countries and over 1700 languages, and how Africa differs from the more established music industries. You will come away with a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities available in the African market such as only 23% mobile internet penetration, but expected to grow to 39% by 2025, in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Success in the African music industry requires patience and knowledge of how best to overcome obstacles including copyright piracy, a still developing technology infrastructure and a lack of a structured royalties and rights system. A must attend to prepare yourself for the marathon ahead.
