Saving the Gig? Towards Fair Platform Work
Whether platform workers are classified correctly is not just a technicality: it has a substantial impact on fair competition and decent working conditions. For platform companies to contribute to an inclusive digital economy, platforms need to be able to compete on a level playing field. Drawing on the political discussions in California and Germany around regulatory approaches, panellists will debate: What are the benefits and social costs associated with platform work? Should self-employed platform workers have access to social security and basic employment rights? What can countries and regions do to set the rules for global platform companies and what are the responsibilities of these companies?
