Comedy: An Essential Tool in Video Game Production

Making a video game is no joke. A modern-day AAA game requires hundreds of individuals across multiple disciplines working in tandem (ideally), and plenty can (and inevitably) will go wrong. If you don’t want your game ending in tragedy, consider injecting some comedy! No genre is better suited for the unpredictable journey that is video game development, and humor can also sustain a team during its long production cycle. Game writers and narrative designers reflect on the role of comedy in games, not only for entertainment, but as a tool to solve production woes — and why most games could use a little comedy.
