The Pain of the Opioids Epidemic: What’s the Rx?

The opioid crisis continues to be one of the worst public health crises that the US has ever seen. Opioids are currently the main driver of drug overdose deaths. Last year, opioids were involved in over 68% of all drug overdose deaths. It’s clear that our society is light years away from developing a solution to the very complex issue of opioid use disorder. In this session, stakeholders with varying perspectives will discuss the future of opioid use in America including the rise of opioid death and addiction in children, senior and rural communities. They will focus on who is stepping up to address the opioid crisis by playing an active role in stewardship programs to prevent opioid misuse, promote appropriate use of opioids, improve patient outcomes, and reduce the misuse of opioids.
