Is a War Between Labels and Publishers Coming?

Date TBA

Record companies currently pocket four to five times more streaming income than publishers do, thanks to a number of factors including government regulations. The Department of Justice is looking at terminating or scaling back those regulations. While some in the music eco-system -- especially songwriters -- are hoping for change, others want to keep things the way they are. We'll look at why things are the way they are and whether they should change.

Takeaways will include a fuller understanding of how streaming income is divided between publishers and labels, and why, as well as predictions about how the status quo may change and which creative communities -- songwriters, artists, producers and others -- will be impacted for good or ill.
