Rehumanize Care: Communicate, Relate, Innovate
Intersections between interpersonal communication, relationships, and technology simultaneously pose opportunities and threats that influence patient and provider experiences. Patient experiences are greatly influenced by the provider-patient relationship, which is threatened by the provider burnout “crisis”. 44% of physicians report at least one burnout symptom (AMA, 2017) and doctor suicide rates are the highest of any profession (CDC, 2018). Technology solutions, especially electronic health records, are often criticized in connection to provider burnout. This interactive panel discussion will explore opportunities for rehumanizing care by leveraging technology to enable stronger relationships and communication skills in healthcare.
