Cultural organizations traditionally act on their artistic responsibilities while forgetting to act on their civic responsibilities. With drastic shifts in philanthropy, and changing trends in cultural participation, the cultural sector is being challenged by having to increase its impact, redefine its relevance, and increase access to the arts in meaningful ways. The development of social impact programs can place an institution in dialogue with the communities that surround it, broaden the impact of the arts, and build new bridges with new audiences. The presentation will cover: a philosophical commitment to civic engagement; program design; and new business models. The aim of the session is for attendees to begin to develop a personalized plan that reimagines their cultural ambitions.
