Workshop: Music Commissioning and Placement in Film/TV 101
This session will provide a complete end to end guide for directors and producers of short and long form media content (television, animation, short films, features, documentaries) that will debunk and chat through every single myth around music commissioning, syncing and usage in media. This will take the form of a slide deck of 12 commonly misunderstood questions around music use/sync that as a composer I hear constantly (!) and then I will and talk about the actual pathways to music usage in media. Examples of these questions would be -“I want to use a cover of Jingle Bells in my viral video-i heard the writer died 100 years ago so there’s no copyright-is that true”? Or "If I commission a composer can I as filmmaker collect a royalty?" or "Why are cue sheets so important for TV?"
Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.
