The Met Museum Meets Wiki: Art, AI, and Big Data
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is pioneering new ways of interacting with the world's artworks through its collaboration with Wikipedia and Wikidata, its new structured database. Learn how The Met’s contribution of Open Access images, metadata, and subject keywords to Wikidata have enabled interactive multimedia capabilities that far exceed what Wikipedia can do today.
Using machine learning and artificial intelligence, The Met and Wikidata are improving the accuracy of computer vision around artworks while making the museum's collection more accessible, discoverable and useful.
The Met has built one of the world’s foremost encyclopedic art collections spanning 5,000 years of culture from around the globe. Its work with Wikidata is expanding this tradition into a new era of innovation.
