PANEL: The Windmill - How a Brixton Dive Bar Saved Alternative Music

Date TBA

Panelists: Will Hodgkinson (The Times), Geoff Travis (Rough Trade), Georgia Ellery (Black Country, New Road) and Tim Perry (Windmill Brixton)

This panel explores the ongoing impact on alternative music of The Windmill in Brixton, London, a thriving grassroots dive bar that has drawn comparisons to New York’s CBGBs. The venue has discovered an unparalleled treasure trove of artists and continues to be the number one hotspot for finding, supporting and nurturing alternative UK artists.

Over the past five years The Windmill has become ground zero for new music for labels and journalists and the DIY music scene. The Fat White Family’s unique brand of rock and roll was tried and tested on the Windmill’s stage and their success paved the way for a whole new scene including Shame, Goat Girl, Sorry, Black Midi and most recently Black Country, New Road.
