Mt. Borracho

Date TBA

Mt.Borracho is a audio-visual project founded in 2013 by Zachary Smith and Cameron Day. Since forming Mt.Borracho has released material surrounding personal surrealism, paranormal and abstract sound design. The act has appeared multiple times on the Radio Dada Chicago Whpk 88.5 with an improvisional style involving textures, drone and dark sounds. Mt.Borracho’s albums are recorded as installations - not for traditional listening but rather as sound pieces for galleries. As a result, performances are cathartic. The act has also become a staple in the underground Techno scene with dark selections and drone fueled from electro-acoustic hardware for live DJ sets. Mt.Borracho appeared alongside local veteran deejays Katrina Fairlee, Nick McDonnough and NY-based Umfang for a set in 2018. Zachary Smith recorded an in-studio broadcast at Red Light Radio Amsterdam and abstract set at Asile404 Marsaille, France . Prior to SXSW, Mt.Borracho was featured in the March 2020 Wire UK magazine for their long abstract track as an “A/V collagist” according to writer Raymond Cummings. The project looks toward the 2020s, developing varied abstract music for subterranean and fine art settings.

Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.
