BLK JKS
BLK JKS are Fader Magazine cover stars (2008) and one of Dave Grohls faves, still regarded by many in the know as one of the most underrated and best live rock bands in the world. Once dubbed “Africa’s Best New Band” by Rolling Stone Magazine International, drummer Tshepang Ramoba was also named best musician at SXSW (2009) by Billboard Magazine. BLK JKS are riffing against a digital age where the value of music is often judged more by the monetization of social media 'likes' than by the cultural content it communicates.
It's this commitment to cultural activism that fuels the band's return with a brightly burning album “Abantu: Before Humans” and single "Harare" 10 years on from their critically acclaimed debut “After robots”. “Harare” featuring vocalist Morena Leraba from Lesotho, is a song manifesting the BLK JKS's continued mission to map uncharted spaces in the music of the Diaspora - which they have pursued by working with everyone from Alicia Keys to Vieux Farka Touré "It's always been about reaching deeper into the roots, as we feel nothing has a more significant impact on our collective presents and futures" they say ... about their signature shapeshifting sonic fiction.
