Quichenight

Human Ghost

"Since launching his Quichenight project in 2010, Nashville songsmith Brett Rosenberg has churned out homespun lo-fi pop by the bushel. The past 18 months alone have yielded a winning collab with Birdcloud’s Jasmin Kaset, Tuxedo, plus a pair of new Quichenight offerings. This Grimey’s in-store marks the release of the second of those, Dork in the Dark, Rosenberg’s debut for SoCal tape-mongers Burger Records. (2018’s Cooler Heads, released via in-town indie YK Records, is the other.) Eccentric, sharp and funny, with a crackling recording that gives its 12 carefree rave-ups, wry confessionals and gently funky interludes a timeless quality, Dork is the latest evidence of Rosenberg’s songwriting aptitude and easy knack for melody. Serious about the craft but never sounding labored, the album — hell, the whole Quichenight continuum — is a perfectly imperfect distillation of all the things that make power pop great." --Charlie Zaillian, Nashville Scene
