Several obsessive years with Colombian traditional music and instruments were the result of a defense mechanism to cope with being an immigrant preteen in late 1990’s United States. Victor-Andres Cruz "El Guámbito" found refuge and a profound sense of identity rooted in these sounds. Raised as an amalgamation between the Colombian countryside, Florida, New England and New York City, Victor created a voice and a place where all worlds converge.

Influenced by cumbia, bullerengue, gaita music, Colombian Andean songs, Southern Mali’s wassoulou music, Sahara’s desert blues, as well as 60’s and 70’s delirious psychedelia from Africa and South America, Nemegata is a mystical fierce power trio currently stretching its roots in Austin.

On August 10, 2018 Casa del Indio Discos released Nemegata’s first single; a lo-fi, raw sounding recording which took place at a rehearsal space in Queens, NY using a 4-track cassette recorder. The tracks were produced in collaboration by "Niño Lento" and played on drums by "Dilemastronauta", two of the masterminds behind the emblematic Combo Chimbita.

Chicago based indie label Sonorama Discos will be releasing Nemegata's debut LP in the Spring of 2020.
