From children's advocate to the "Moral conscience of the Senate" (LA Times, 2016) Senator Holly Mitchell has spent her entire career working to end child poverty and create a CA in which ALL children thrive.
Since her election to the CA Legislature in 2010, she has authored numerous pieces of landmark legislation and state budget actions, including
~ending punitive policies in the CalWORKS program that drove families into deep poverty,
~limiting civil asset forfeiture,
~sentencing parity for rock versus powder cocaine,
~de-criminalizing prostitution for minor victims of sex trafficking,
~stopping the abuse of psychotropic drugs in the foster care system, and ~#EquityandJustice, a 10-bill package that reforms the juvenile justice system.
As chairwoman of the Senate Budget committee, she oversaw the development of the state's $200 billion investment in California's future.
She is a member of the Senate's leadership team and serves the nearly 1 million residents of the 30th Senate district with honor.
