Emmy Black
For more than a decade, Emmy Black has been a tireless advocate for smart, idiosyncratic, fearless musicians – artists whose voices may not fit perfectly on mainstream playlists, but who deserve to be heard nonetheless. As an A&R person and digital marketing director at the legendary (and famously offbeat) Hoboken label Bar/None, Emmy signed The Front Bottoms, Ezra Furman, and Emperor X. She assisted Ben Kweller in the development of his imprint Noise Company. She worked as client relations manager at The Orchard, a digital distribution firm with a deep catalog of independent acts. And as the founder and chief of her own Rhyme & Reason Records, she’s championed a deep roster of one-of-a-kind artists with singular perspectives, including Pronoun, My Brightest Diamond, Red Baraat, and Calliope Musicals. Emmy lives in Jersey City, New Jersey.
