Associate Professor
McCombs School of Business

James Scott is a professor of statistics and data science at The University of Texas at Austin, where he has a joint appointment in the McCombs School of Business and in the Department of Statistics and Data Science in the College of Natural Sciences. His new book is AIQ: How People and Machines are Smarter Together (jointly with Nick Polson). AIQ was published by St. Martin’s Press in May 2018, and it answers many of the question people tend to have about artificial intelligence. What is AI? How does it work? Where did it come from, and how is it changing the world? Scott graduated from UT Austin, spent two years studying on a Marshall Scholarship at the University of Cambridge, and then earned his Ph.D in statistics from Duke University in 2009. As a data scientist, Scott collaborates with experts in a wide range of fields, including health care, security, infectious disease, linguistics, marketing, and many others of science, social science, and business.
