Dulce M. Cruz-Oliver, MD, received her MD from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus 2005. At the same university she completed her Internal Medicine residency in the University District Hospital of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She then sub-specialized in Geriatric Medicine after concluding two-year fellowship at the Saint Louis University. For 7 years she worked as Assistant Professor and then got promoted to Associate Professor at Saint Louis University Division of Geriatric Medicine. During her first 5 years of her career Dr. Cruz received a Geriatric Academic Career Award from the Heath Resources and Services Administration to develop herself as a Geriatrics Clinician-educator and researcher. Her teaching and research interests are focused on palliative and geriatric care education; and end-of-life care in Latino elders. The following two years she was awarded among 10 of the Sojourns Scholar leaders in the nation by the Cambia Health Foundation to develop palliative medicine at the Saint Louis University Hospital. One of her accomplishments at Saint Louis University was to start and leave in good standing the hospice and palliative medicine fellowship training program.This past year and a half she was hired as Assistant Professor of the Palliative Program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Last year she obtained a National Cancer Institute Diversity Supplement, entitled, Telenovela: A Learning Experience in Hospice Research.
