Jana Thompson

Data Designer

Jana grew up in Austin, where she fondly remembers an early adulthood that was a mixture of long nights of studying and the last days of Austin slackerdom. She then moved to Berlin and researched the Autonomen movement of the early 1980s in terms of their cultural positioning as being outside the state. For the two years after, she perfected the art of being a digital nomad before such a term had even been coined before settling into life as a natural language researcher in San Francisco. During her time in the Bay Area, she has also volunteered as a doula at San Francisco General Hospital, with the reproductive justice group ACCESS in Oakland, with the SAILORS summer camp in Oakland, and as a mentor for AI for All. Recently, she changed her focus to design with data when she joined the design studio Fjord.
