Sara Perry is Director and Senior Counsel of Marketing Legal at Netflix. Prior to joining Netflix, Sara was the Vice President and Head of Marketing Business & Legal Affairs at NBCUniversal overseeing all legal issues relating to marketing, branding, promotion and publicity, including digital and social media for the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group including Universal Studios, Focus Features and DreamWorks Animation Film and Television. Sara was also the Head of Marketing and PR Legal at DreamWorks Animation prior to its acquisition by Universal. Before going in-house, Sara worked in private practice in Toronto at Heenan Blaikie LLP and in New York at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz PC and Skadden Arps. Sara’s practice has focused on providing Marketing, Advertising and Entertainment legal advice to brands, advertising and PR agencies, film and television studios, producers, distributors and broadcasters, streaming services, gaming companies, sports teams/leagues on a wide range of matters such as advising on sponsorship and endorsement deals, contests and promotions, rights acquisition and clearance, advertising review and substantiation, branded integration and custom content initiatives, advertising to children, virtual, augment and mixed reality (VAMR) projects, talent and influencer issues, and the development, production, financing and distribution of content for commercials, new media, television and film projects.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Sara worked in Advertising where she was selected as one of Marketing Magazine’s “Ones To Watch: Marketing’s Next Generation” featuring top industry achievers under age 30. Sara has also been named in The Best Lawyers in Canada – Best Lawyers® for her work in Advertising & Marketing Law.
