Dan McCoy

Dan McCoy is a physician entrepreneur and communicator with a passion for improving the way we deliver healthcare for Texans. Dr. McCoy sports a suit – usually blue – to work each day, where he carries an energetic spirit and 20 years of experience as a practicing physician into his new role as president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Blue Cross is the state's oldest and largest health insurer, working with nearly 80,000 physicians and 500 hospitals to serve more than 5 million members in all 254 counties. Leading up to this role, Dr. McCoy served as the company's divisional senior vice president and chief medical officer where he directed market strategy for all of Texas. As an advocate for independent physicians, he was instrumental in the creation of TMA PracticeEdge, a new physician-services company that aims to help Texas physicians stay independent by assisting with the transition to value-based care. Dr. McCoy is often quoted as defining true value-based care as "a doctor placing a hand on a patient," understanding that physicians have a powerful and immediate effect on the way medicine is delivered and value is created
