Elizabeth Margulis is Distinguished Professor and Director of the Music Cognition Lab at the University of Arkansas. In the summer of 2019, the lab is moving to Princeton University. Her research uses theoretical, behavioral, and neuroimaging approaches to study musical experiences. Her book On Repeat: How Music Plays the Mind (Oxford University Press) won the Wallace Berry Award from the Society for Music Theory and the Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. Her most recent book The Psychology of Music: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press) provides a brief and lively overview of the field. Her current cross-cultural work on narrative experiences of music is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
