Jonathan Salk

Jonathan Salk was born in Pittsburgh, PA., the third son of his mother, a psychiatric social worker, and his father, the late Jonas Salk. A graduate of Stanford University with a degree in anthropology, he worked for several years as a musician/songwriter and later as a pre-school teacher prior to going to medical school at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Jonathan then completed his training in adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine where he is currently Assistant Clinical Professor. He is currently in full-time private practice, but also lectures, writes, and teaches the theory and practice of psychiatry. He has a particular interest in the effects of experience and trauma on human development. He is a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council and member of the Advisory Board of the Population Media Center. He and his wife and their two grown sons live and work in Los Angeles.
