Emilio Garcia-Ruiz
As a managing editor, Emilio Garcia-Ruiz oversees the newsroom’s development, implementation and execution of digital strategy. The Washington Post is one of the world's fastest-growing media companies and an acknowledged leader in the use of technology in a newsroom. Among his recent work was supervising a digital reorganization that created three new roles and better integrated product in the newsroom and a successful reimagination of the video team. Before becoming a managing editor, Garcia-Ruiz served as the Editor for Strategic Projects, Local Editor and Sports Editor. Before returning to The Post in 2001, he was the sports editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press where he directed the newspaper's Pulitzer prize-winning investigative pieces uncovering academic fraud in the University of Minnesota men's basketball program. The series of stories won reporter George Dohrmann the 2000 Pulitzer for beat reporting.
