Hasan Ali is a Senior Attorney at Microsoft, where he oversees global lawful access policy and manages law enforcement and national security matters.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Hasan served as Senior Counsel to then-Chairman/Ranking Member Patrick Leahy on the Senate Judiciary Committee. In that role, he provided policy and strategic guidance on surveillance, digital privacy, cybercrime, and national security matters. He assisted Chairman Leahy with enactment of the USA FREEDOM Act and efforts to reform to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA).
Hasan previously worked in private practice in the Washington, D.C. office of WilmerHale. Following law school, he served as Chairman’s Fellow on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and then clerked for Judge Beryl A. Howell in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He graduated from the University of Chicago and Boston University Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal on Science & Technology Law.
