Jennifer 8. Lee is a vice chair of the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee and a co-founder of Emojination, a grassroots group who strives to bring voices of the people to issues of emoji regulation. She and Yiying Lu were recognized for their emoji work in 2018 on Fast Company's list of 100 most creative business people. She is a former New York Times reporter, the producer of The Search for General Tso documentary, the author of The Fortune Cookie Chronicles and the CEO of Plympton. She is also been an adviser for many aspects of SXSW (including being a judge for panels). Emojination has lead the charge on more than 100 emoji approvals, including HIJAB, HIKING BOOT, BROCCOLI, DNA, BROOM, PRETZEL and dumpling.
