Sumi Paranjape
Sumi is the Director for Health and Science in the Technology Advancement Department at Vulcan. Sumi combines her expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular virology with her passion for global health and infectious disease surveillance to tackle pressing problems in conservation and global health. Sumi’s team is currently working to deliver pandemic surveillance & forecasting solutions for front line health workers and clinicians. After receiving her Ph.D. and MPH, Sumi completed postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley, investigating host-pathogen interactions during dengue infection. Sumi served as a Program Officer for Biological Non-Proliferation & Health Security at the U.S. Department of State before serving as a Lead for Southeast Asia at the U.S. Department of Defense/Defense Threat Reduction Agency. Under her leadership, her teams launched innovative and enduring multi-million-dollar programs for health security in Pakistan, India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
