Ethan Sonneborn

Ethan Sonneborn is a 2018 gubernatorial candidate in Vermont. At age five, he got an encyclopedia of American history and became fascinated by the concept of coalition-building and bringing people from all walks of life together to achieve a common goal. Sonneborn currently attends Mt. Abraham Union Middle/High School and is an advocate for the “Medicare for All” health care plan proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders, his home-state senator. The eight-grader has described himself as a progressive populist and lifelong Democrat. Amid the recent youth-led movement for stricter gun laws, Sonneborn spoke out in favor of such reforms, even in Vermont where hunting culture runs deep. He lives in Bristol, Vermont, where he is youngest person in the state's history to run for office; he is currently campaigning ahead of the Vermont's Democratic primary in August 2018.
