Shaarik Zafar

Shaarik Zafar is a Public Policy Manager at Facebook, where he provides policy guidance on issues ranging from hate speech to disinformation and manages relationships with stakeholders including those focused on countering online bigotry. He previously served as the Special Representative to Muslim Communities where he drove the State Department’s engagement with a global population of 1.6 billion people, and as a Director for Global Engagement at the White House National Security Council. He also served as the Deputy Chief of Homeland, Cyber, and CVE at the National Counterterrorism Center, a Senior Policy Advisor for Civil Rights at the Department of Homeland Security, and the Special Counsel for Post 9/11 National Origin Discrimination at the Department of Justice where he led the Initiative to Combat Post 9/11 Backlash. Prior to his U.S. Government service, Shaarik worked as litigator at one of the oldest law firms in Texas.
