Berwyn Rowlands

Managing Director
Iris Prize

Berwyn started sharing LGBT+ films with audiences in 1989 when he established the first International film festival in Wales.

He led Sgrîn to create a single media agency in Wales from the amalgamation of The Wales Film Council, Screen Wales and The Wales Film Archive. Successfully positioned Sgrîn as Wales’ strategic body for film, television and new media, quickly gaining stakeholder buy-in.

In 2006 he established the Iris Prize – at £30,000 the world’s largest LGBT short film prize presented annually during the Iris Prize Festival in Cardiff, Wales. Wild Geese the 9th short film produced with the Iris Prize is doing the 2018 festival circuit including Insideout, Outfest and Gaze. The Iris Prize was recognised by The Queen at a reception for the British Film Industry in 2013. He is regularly asked to talk about film and LGBT+ issues on TV and radio.
