Dr. Alena Grabowski is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder and a Research Scientist with the Department of Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Healthcare System in Denver, CO. She has an extensive scientific background in human biomechanics, physiology, mechatronics, and the effects of use of assistive devices such as passive-elastic and powered prostheses during locomotion, which includes walking, running, sprinting, and jumping. Dr. Grabowski has worked with people with lower extremity amputations from those who can barely walk to the fastest sprinters and best Paralympic athletes in the world. Dr. Grabowski has conducted 13 different published studies on over 50 athletes with lower limb amputations which provide information to governing bodies such as the IAAF, who seek to create fair unbiased rules and determine if use of prostheses augment or impair performance for athletes with leg amputations compared to non-amputees.
