Equality Texas Education and Resource Coordinator Rachel Gonzales emerged as a citizen advocate and leader in defeating the discriminatory Texas bathroom bill in the state’s 2017 legislative session. Rachel testified multiple times, including in one hearing, at 2:00 in the morning, while she and her husband were each holding one of their sleeping children. Rachel is determined to have a voice for her transgender daughter and all transgender children across the state. Her unwavering commitment to equality has pushed her to the forefront of the battle against discrimination across the state and the nation. She has maintained a local to national media presence in the fight for equality for transgender Texans and is an active member of Dallas-Fort Worth Trans Kids and Families (DFWTKF) and a member of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) National Parents for Transgender Equality Council.
