Founder
O'Reilly Media

Tim O'Reilly is the founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, Inc. His original business plan was simply "interesting work for interesting people," and that's worked out pretty well. He publishes books, runs conferences, invests in early-stage startups, urges companies to create more value than they capture, and tries to change the world by spreading and amplifying the knowledge of innovators. Tim is also a founder and director of Safari Books Online, a pioneering subscription service for accessing books, video, and online training, and a partner at O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, an early-stage venture firm. He is also on the boards of Code for America, PeerJ, Civis Analytics, and Maker Media, which was spun out from O'Reilly Media in 2012. Maker Media's Maker Faire has been compared to the West Coast Computer Faire, which launched the personal computer revolution. One of Tim's major focus areas for the past five years, largely working with Code for America, has been how to apply lessons from the technology industry to rebuilding government services for the 21st century.
