Katsuyuki Motohiro

Born in 1965 in Kagawa prefecture. After working on the production crew and as a director for TV ads, late-night TV, news & variety programs, TV dramas, and documentaries, he directed his first theatrical movie Shichigatsu Nanoka, Hare in 1996. Bayside Shakedown 2 released in 2003 broke the Japanese box office record for live-action films. He has directed many productions thereafter, including other Bayside Shakedown titles, Summer Time Machine Blues, and UDON.
In 2007, he launched theater project FABRICA for which he is the stage director. In 2010, he participated in Engeki Nyumon, a play based on Oriza Hirata’s book and scripted by Hideto Iwai. In recent years, he has been active in a wide range of projects, such as chief executive director for AKB48’s Everyday, Katyusha PV and anime PSYCHO-PASS; project producer for the Ghost in the Shell ARISE border:less project; and director for the Sanuki Film Festival since 2013. He has also started directing online videos, and short film Regret on “Nestle Theater on YouTube” has garnered over 3 million views. In 2014, he was the chief executive director for online short movie Hotto Father for the LIXIL brand as well as Odoru Daisenden Kaigi Aruiwa Watashi-wa Ikanishite Odorunowo Yamete Game no Ruru wo Kaeruni Itattaka (literally “the great dancing advertising conference or how I stopped dancing and changed the rules of the game”) on Nestle Theater.In 2015, he directed When the Curtain Rises starring girls idol group Momoiro Clover Z, based on a story by Oriza Hirata. He also directed its stage version (written by Oriza Hirata, starring Momoiro Clover Z).
