Mia Parton
An active advocate of the LGBTQ Community, Mia M. Parton moved with her family to the United States at the age of 16 from Jordan, she identifies as West Asian Texan and Muslim Queer woman. She obtained her Civil Engineering degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2007. She founded Women’s Alliance for Leadership (WAL) in 2013, currently Queer Women in Leadership, a statewide non-profit organization through which she has empowered LGBTQ women in Texas by offering accessible leadership workshops, awarding scholarships, and honoring Texas women leaders. She truly inspires community participation and action. Mia is a local activist, philanthropist, and public servant. Since 2015 she served as the Health, Safety and Environment Committee Chair of the National American Water Works Association (AWWA), also recently appointed as the City of Austin Water and Wastewater Commissioner and to the Board of Directors of the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce. Last year, she started her own civil engineering firm, Aeparmia Engineering PLLC, where she specializes in consulting and design services for the Water and Telecommunications industries.
