Elana Newman

Research Director for the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, McFarlin Professor of Psychology, and Co-Director of the University of Tulsa Institute for Trauma, Adversity and Injustice. I'm a psychologist with expertise in traumatic stress studies with years of experience working with and researching a variety of issues affecting trauma-exposed groups, including journalists. I consider myself a journalist ally who helps journalists tell more informed ethical accurate news coverage about trauma as well as promotes self-care among journalists.I am also a disaster mental health researcher and responder, An avid film and music lover with curiosity about many issues, I am looking forward to taking full advantage of all SXSW has to offer! .
