Matt McMahon leads the Sports Diplomacy division in the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Matt and his team manage people-to-people exchange programs like the Global Sports Mentoring Program in partnership with U.S. universities and the private sector to highlight American excellence and leadership in sport. These exchanges between American and international youth, coaches and sports executives tap into the shared passion for sports around the world to break down linguistic and cultural barriers while advancing U.S. foreign policy priorities, deepening understanding of the United States and other cultures, and empowering young people around the world to make positive change in their communities through sport. Matt is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and roots for teams from his native New England and his adoptive home of Washington, DC.
