Editor in Chief
The Defiant Femme

Chaka is a social researcher at UK’s leading LGBT rights organisation, activist and founder of The Defiant Femme, a blog dedicated to discuss and celebrate subversive queer femininity. Chaka grew up in Berlin, Germany where she studied Politics and Sociology, before she moved to her home of choice London, where she continued her academic pursuit with interdisciplinary Gender and Sexuality studies. Last year she published her first research No Safe Refuge which looked at the inequalities LGBT asylum seekers face in British detention centres.

Chaka is passionate about positive femininity and tries to create a space in which femmehood can be appreciated and discussed. Her writings explore being Femme in intersection with other relevant areas like queerness, love, mental wellbeing, surviving and style. She uses her style to resist oppressive heteronormative narratives and is determine to create with that alternative transgressive understandings of femininity.
