Michael V. McConnell, MD, MSEE is Head of Cardiovascular Health Innovations at Verily Life Sciences and Clinical Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford School of Medicine, where he continues to see patients and teach in the Stanford Biodesign program.

Dr. McConnell is a native of Brooklyn and completed his BS and MS in EE/BioE at MIT followed by his MD at Stanford. He completed his Cardiovascular Medicine and Imaging Fellowships and then joined the faculty at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

He joined the Stanford faculty in 1998, with a clinical and research career spanning cardiovascular imaging, prevention, and mobile health. He led Stanford’s Cardiovascular MRI program, Preventive Cardiology Clinic, and the MyHeart Counts cardiovascular mHealth ResearchKit study. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and been the PI of multiple research and training grants from the NIH and AHA.

Dr. McConnell is a Fellow of the AHA and ACC and currently serves as co-chair of AHA’s 2030 Goals Task Force. He has been on the AHA’s Health Tech Advisory Board since its founding and serves on the Physical Activity Standards working group for the Consumer Technology Association.
