Huatong Sun
Dr. Huatong Sun is Associate Professor of Digital Media and Global UX Design at the University of Washington Tacoma. Her book “Cross-Cultural Technology Design” (Oxford University Press, 2012) won a best technical communication book award and received endorsements from “Fast Company | CoDesign” and “User Experience Magazine.” She’s working with Oxford on a new book on global social media design.
Originally from China, Huatong started her practice out of the frustration about poorly designed interactive technologies dominated by Western mindsets. She is passionate about training students into socially responsible global designers through service-learning projects with local community partners, including multicultural centers, Native American tribes, free rural clinics, and non-profit organizations for people with disabilities and LGBT communities.
Huatong presents her empirical research at the top conferences such as CHI, ICA, AIR, CCCC, STC, and ATTW, and is an invited speaker for lectures and workshops in leading universities in North America, Asia, and Europe.
