Joel Emans
Joel is Assistant General Counsel at the Pokémon Company International, Inc., where he heads up a team advising client groups on a wide range of commercial and IP matters including: video game development, marketing, film and tv distribution, data privacy, consumer product licensing and sales, and esports production. From 2011 to 2015, Joel was an associate at Hughes Media Law Group PLLC, where he worked with a number of well-known game studios in the (then) emerging world of mobile gaming. Between receiving his B.A. and J.D. – both from the University of Washington - Joel worked in the financial services group at Davis Polk LLP in New York and as a freelance writer covering money laundering and banking fraud. Beyond his day job, Joel teaches video game law at the University of Washington School of Law, does pro bono work for independent musicians and composers, and tries to memorize more Pokémon names than his kids.
