PR Reconnects

When the FCC reported that Hurricane Maria disabled 93% of the telecommunication network in PR, Javier Malavé, in collaboration with other independent parties, immediately sought out lightweight and innovative solutions for immediate deployment. That’s when he founded PR Reconnects, a tech focused humanitarian effort which enabled communication for organizations working in relief efforts primarily using mesh network technologies. This included the deployment of a text mesh network using GoTenna devices in several hard hit municipalities. Thanks to the support of other colleagues, a hybrid network was established adding Garmin InReach Satellite SMS to the mix. Javier spent the past 12 years working in a diverse set of environments within the embedded systems and semiconductor industry. His career includes working with the likes of Hamilton Sundstrand, Freescale and Texas Instruments. As part of the latter organization he collaborated with NSN, Google X, Ericsson, Huawei, NEC, Samsung, among other industry giants focusing on networking and embedded security. He has a B.S. from the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez & M.S. from the University of Texas A&M in Computer Engineering and a Masters in Tech Entrepreneurship from University of Maryland.
