Peter Work
Peter Work is co-founder (with his wife Rebecca) of Ampelos Cellars, the first winery in the U.S. to be certified, organic, biodynamic and sustainable. Peter and Rebecca Work originally hailed from Denmark and Alaska, and they met in California while working for Price Waterhouse. A cancelled meeting at the World Trade Center on the morning of September, 11, 2001 brought them to the realization that it was time to pursue their dreams of growing grapes as if tomorrow might never arrive. They quit their corporate jobs and moved permanently to their fledgling vineyard in the southern Santa Rita Hills of California. They founded Ampelos Cellars eschewing the '"factory" practices of 95% of farms, they grow biodynamically in a holistic approach to the land.
