Rainer Gombos

Rainer Gombos, an Emmy-winning Visual Effects Supervisor and Creative Director, is the founder of REALTRA, a cutting edge production company specializing in immersive, volumetric virtual reality.

Rainer won an Emmy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work as VFX Supervisor on the season two finale of HBO’s acclaimed series, Game of Thrones. He was responsible for the visual effects on COSMOS: A Space Time Odyssey, for which he received another Emmy nomination. A seasoned visual effects veteran, Rainer has a body of diverse work extending across blockbuster features such as Fast Five, Sucker Punch, 2012, Beautiful Creatures, Day After Tomorrow and Sin City. He has also done commercial work for brands like Snickers, Saturn and Total, as well as music videos and video games.

Always innovating and searching for technology that moves us forward, Rainer opened and managed the LA-based production studio of New Zealand’s virtual reality startup 8i, where he helped pioneer new methods of volumetric video capture. His new company, REALTRA, is the product of Rainer's multi-disciplinary background and creative passions, leveraging volumetric VR and VFX techniques to alter the entertainment and communications landscape of tomorrow!
