Congresswoman, Alabama's 7th District
U.S. House of Representatives

Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell is in her fourth term representing Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. She is one of the first women elected to Congress from Alabama and is the first ever black woman to be elected to Congress from the state. Rep. Sewell has made our fight to restore the Voting Rights Act (VRA) a top priority in Congress, where she has introduced the Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would prevent discriminatory election changes is states with a history of voter suppression. Rep. Sewell has also fought tirelessly to reduce barriers to running for women and minority candidates. This spring, Rep. Sewell led a succesful letter with 26 Members of Congress urging the FEC to allow candidates to use campaign funds to pay for campaign-related childcare expenses. Congresswoman Sewell is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and is Vice Chair of the New Democrat Caucus. She is also Co-Chair of the newly formed Voting Rights Caucus.
