Stuart Brown was appointed the BFI’s Head of Programme & Acquisitions in 2015. Stuart plays a key role in unifying the BFI’s audience strategy, maximising the cultural and commercial performance of BFI cinemas and BFI distribution across UK theatrical, nontheatrical, DVD, VoD service BFI Player and international touring programmes. Stuart has overseen several successful cross-platform projects including Shakespeare on Film, Dissent & Disruption: Alan Clarke, and the Complete Martin Scorsese Retrospective.
Stuart was previously Head of Events and Production at the BFI.

Joining the organisation in 1998, he was responsible for programming and producing sell-out seasons and events, playing a central role in bringing new audiences to BFI Southbank, taking the work of the BFI to audiences across the UK, and growing commercial revenues. This included a lead role in the development, programming and delivery of BFI blockbuster seasons HITCHCOCK, GOTHIC, BLACKSTAR and SCI-FI and THRILLER.

Stuart also pioneered popular programme strands across BFI Southbank and BFI Festivals and creating must-see events which have garnered national and international attention including BUG: The Evolution of Music Video, Optronica Festival of Visual Music, Onedotzero: Adventures in Motion, Sonic Cinema and the London Film Festival Sonic strand.
