Marc Kuchner is an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. He is known for work on imaging of disks and exoplanets, novel supercomputer models of planet-disk interactions, and ideas about ocean planets, carbon planets, and helium planets. Marc appears as an expert commentator in the National Geographic television show Alien Earths and frequently answers "Ask Astro" questions in Astronomy magazine. He serves as the principal investigator of the citizen science websites Disk Detective and Backyard Worlds: Planet 9. Marc received his bachelor's degree in physics from Harvard and his Ph.D. in astronomy from Caltech. After earning his Ph.D., Marc studied at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics as a Michelson Fellow and then at Princeton University as a Hubble Fellow. Marc received an early career achievement award from SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, in 2009.
