Director Dee Severe comes to fetish porn from a background in mainstream indie film, including 4 scripts which were frustratingly enough, optioned but never made. Produced during her stint with the collective, Socal Film Group, her short film “Forensic Mysteries” screened at the Silverlake Festival, The Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, The Bethel Film festival and was a semi-finalist in the Action/Cut competition.
She and her husband Jimmy Broadway are both lifestyle BDSM players; they founded Severe Society Films in 2007 with the aim of combining authentic BDSM with cinematic production values. In 2014 they signed with major distributor Exile and re-branded as Severe Sex Films. Their films have received 36 AVN award nominations, 18 XBIZ award nominations, a Transgender Erotic Award nomination, a Feminist Porn Award nomination, and 8 nominations plus an award for DVD of the Year from the FemDom Awards. Severe was also nominated for a Progressive Leadership Award from XBIZ Online Executive Awards.
In her previous career, Severe was a freelance writer whose credits include Rolling Stone, LA Weekly, the Village Voice, the Hollywood Reporter along with many other publications. She was also the co-author of a non-fiction book, “Everything and the Kitchen Sink: Remodel your kitchen without losing your mind.” Severe and Broadway live in downtown L.A. with their four rescued dogs; Severe is an animal rights advocate and a vegan.
