Turning Data into Dollars: Monetizing Social Media

Date TBA

A discussion on ways the gathering of streaming and user data is affecting the music industry and how artists, music managers, labels, and publishers are taking advantage to monetize the information. The panel will discuss the growing monetary value of data, e.g. fan email addresses, twitter handles, Facebook pages, Instagram pages, and the other social media identifiers that fans and consumers use to interact with artists, labels, and each other. And will address the questions: How is data/social media information valued? Who owns the data? How is the data ownership divided upon termination or break up? How is the data shared? How is the income from the data shared? How are music industry agreements being changed to address these questions?
